Amy Stiller is an actress. She is funny (as it would be impossible not to be; having Jerry and Anne as her parents and Ben as her brother).
Growing up in the cultural richness of New York City in the 1970’s she was lucky enough to be exposed to theatre, art, music, writers, actors and artists of all kinds from the time she was born. It was a magical existence watching her parents work in films, TV shows like Ed Sullivan early on – among many more to come, and Broadway plays. One of her funniest childhood memories was that of being with her parents in summer stock when they were doing Prisoner Of Second Avenue by Neil Simon with her and her brother imitating their middle aged characters, in costume with every laugh, pause, and line perfectly memorized. When she was 8 she got to play the flower girl in her mom’s movie Lover’s And Other Strangers and sing with Cloris Leachman.
People say that Amy grew up in ‘showbusiness’ but she doesn’t feel that as much as she feels that she grew up in ‘theatre’, not just because they lived in New York but because the focus was on the joy of the work as opposed to the fame.
Her humor, combined with an innate vulnerability, and intelligence makes her a unique kind of serio-comic actress. Her ability to simultaneously be subtle and authentic and also do hilarious characters makes her a force to be reckoned with.
As an actress, Amy has appeared in numerous Movies and TV Shows, Inside Amy Schumer, King of Queens, Bored To Death, Law and Order, The Cable Guy, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Little Fockers
And Plays, The Vagina Monologues, The Heidi Chronicles, The Moscows of Nantucket….to name just a few. ….
Also a writer, her pieces are published in the anthologies ‘Dirty Laundry’, edited by Maggie Rowe and Anderson Gabrych and ‘No Kidding’, coming out in May 2013, edited by Henriette Mantel. She performs her standup and her autobiographical pieces in New York and Los Angeles.
Coming from this extraordinary family with its gifts of, humor, heart, creativity and passion – it’s in her blood, but Amy Stiller stands boldly as a unique talent with an originality and identity all her own.
